One hour on the motorway from Stuttgart and a few miles on an A-road and there you already are at the Lake Constance, the so-called Swabian Sea. On Germany's biggest lake the wind can sometimes blow violently, but more often the lake presents itself of its mild side. As mild as its climate, after all it is the only region of Germany where the palm trees at the lake survive the winter. Opposite lies Switzerland and the famous island of Mainau. Only a few miles from Meersburg lies Friedrichshafen, a district principal town. In this place a success story had started off in the beginning of the 20th century, which unfortunately ended with the disaster of Lakehurst in 1937, the story of the zeppelin. Count Zeppelin developed his large flying machines on a field next to Friedrichshafen. A few days later in the restaurant I Fratelli in San Remo an old gentleman told us how much he admired in 1930, as a little boy, the zeppelin hovering above his home town. Today they make their circles mostly for advertising purposes. Though, since a few years, one has the opportunity again to participate at the floating experience as a paying passenger. Without any disaster risk, as the today´s gas mixture is not inflammable any more.
